Bursaries on offer
"This programme is meant for those who cannot afford to go to beauty schools that charge high fees."
Unemployment remains a motivator for the youth the turn to crime.
“South Africa is struggling to cater for and provide employment for all young people. It remains one of the biggest motivators and activators of crime as young people get bored, do not have money and as a result resort to crime,” said Ms Elizabeth Nchabeng, the programme director of Ellies Beauty Studio.
Ms Nchabeng said they have established a bursary programme to empower young people, especially catering for women who have beauty skills, including nail technology, eyelash extensions, make-up, hair extensions, massage, facials and waxing.
“This programme is meant for those who cannot afford to go to beauty schools that charge high fees. The bursary is underway and aspiring beauticians are being empowered and enjoying practicals while preparing to either start their own businesses or find employment,” she said.
Ms Nchabeng said there is limited space for aspiring beauticians.
“We are looking for hard working individuals who have a passion for beauty. These include drop outs and matriculants who are struggling to find work and there is no age discrimination. This will be a second chance platform for those who want a better life,” she said.
She said those who complete the training will be placed at other Ellies Beauty branches, or may start their own businesses under her mentorship.
“Further to this, our graduates are referred to the NYDA for entrepreneurship workshops for those seeking funding and mentorship after completing the beautician course with Ellies Beauty Studios. This will benefit our graduates immensely.
“These bursaries will be given on a first come first basis,” she said.
Preference will be given to youngsters. The closing date is October 31.
Those who are interested can obtain application forms at the nearest training centres and submit completed forms along with a copy of their ID and CV.
