Jaws-of-life used to free driver after truck collision

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations

A man was left in a critical condition last night after a light motor vehicle and truck collided on Putfontein Road in Benoni.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene and found the light motor vehicle partially underneath the large truck, Russel Meiring of ER24 said.

The driver of the light motor vehicle was trapped in the wreck.  Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life to remove the the vehicle’s roof to gain access to the patient.

Once freed, paramedics provided the patient with advanced life support treatment and transported him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The driver of the truck was found to have sustained only minor injuries. He was treated and transported to a nearby hospital for further assessment.
