The men allegedly robbed a tuck shop in Tembisa

Two suspects were arrested in possession of an unlicensed firearm in Isumuku Street, Birch Acres, on Thursday, October 22, at about 5:30pm.

According to Norkem Park SAPS spokesman, Capt Lesibana Molokomme, D/Const Kabelo Seanego from the station’s detective unit was responsible for the arrest.

“The officer was driving along Isimuku Street when he noticed two men running, carrying shelf drawers. He thought to himself they were probably running from a crime scene. He was alone, driving an unmarked police vehicle, and still managed to stop them,” explained Molokomme.

“Upon searching them he discovered a 9mm Beretta pistol with the serial number filed off, with an empty magazine.”

In the drawer, Molokomme said, the suspects had coins valued at about R200, airtime vouchers, six boxes of cigarettes, a wallet and an okapi knife.

“It is believed the suspects were running from Phomolong section in Tembisa where they had committed a business robbery at one of the tuck shops,” added Molokomme.

The owner opened a case of business robbery with a firearm at the Rabie Ridge SAPS.

The two suspects, aged 19 and 30, will face charges of business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
