Community urged to report criminals
Major General Sithole, said it is time that members of the community work with the police to help expose criminals.
Members of the Tembisa Cluster SAPS, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) and the Department of Community Safety gathered at the Ivory Park Extension 2 Stadium for a crime awareness campaign.
The campaign took place on Saturday.
The law enforcement members visited all the sectors of Ivory Park, encouraging community members to work together with them in order to root out crime in the area.
They were also joined by Ivory Park Taxi Association (IPTA), community patrollers, and non-profit organisation members.
When addressing the community, the head of the Tembisa Cluster SAPS, Major General Sithole, said it is time that members of the community work with the police to help expose criminals.
Residents were encouraged to point out criminals and police officers were urged to ensure arrests are made.
“The Ivory Park area needs to be cleaned up when it comes to crime so that everyone in Ivory Park can live without fear,” said Maj Gen Sithole.
The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier Frank Mthombheni, said Tswelopele residents should not allow criminals to rule them, as criminals are in the minority.
“We need to rid our area of them,” said Brig Mthombheni.
The Department of Community Safety’s representative, Mr Muzi, said they are also prepared to give support to crime prevention and thanked all the contributors of the initiatives that are taking place in order to fight crime.
