Party goer crashes into tent, kills one
All the victims were enjoying themselves inside a tent that was erected on the street during the birthday celebration.
A 29-year-old man appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of culpable homicide.
The Ivory Park SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, said it was reported that the driver of a grey Polo hit and killed a person during a 21st birthday party in Ivory Park, Extension 2, on Sunday morning.
“It is thought the suspect hit four people, including the deceased. The other three were rushed to hospital. All the victims were enjoying themselves inside a tent that was erected on the street during the birthday celebration.
“The 29-year-old man, driving in his Polo, hit the four people dancing inside the tent,” said W/O Sekgobela.
W/O Sekgobela said the deceased was certified dead by paramedics at the scene.
“The driver of the vehicle was nowhere to be found after the incident.
“He later handed himself over to the Ivory Park SAPS. Both the suspect and victims were guests invited to the 21st birthday celebration. The suspect was charged with culpable homicide and for driving a vehicle without a driver’s license,” said W/O Sekgobela.
