Large parts of the city is currently (5.50pm) without electricity. Areas affected seem to be Kempton Park ext, Van Riebeeck Park, Bredell, Terenure, Birchleigh and Edleen.
According to ward councillor Jaco Terblanche it seems a transformer at the substation on the corner of De Wiekus and Soutpansberg Drive have blown.
According to him technicians on site could not give a time frame when power would be restored.
Earlier reports that it is a cable fault seem to be incorrect.
