October is a month during which we should be celebrating our elders.
Tembisa residents have observed the International Day of Older Persons in their own little corners of Tembisa.
On October 17, friends, family and ANC veterans hosted a surprise party to celebrate the 70th birthday of Ms Vicky Phuthi.
This was followed by a cake cutting party hosted on October 25.
“I thought I would die without having had a birthday cake,” said Ms Phuthi.
On October 10, Old Mutual also handed over a donation of goods worth R20 000 to the Tembisa Self Help Association for the Disabled (T-Shad) and hosted a free financial education workshop.
“We appreciate the gesture from Old Mutual and we are looking forward to a long-standing partnership,” said Mr Calvin Stemela.
On October 8, the Lechabile Nursery School decided to celebrate its 22nd anniversary with the elderly.
“The elderly of Tembisan visited the school and spent time with the children, telling them stories. They also enjoyed tea and cake,” said Ms Heather Nebulu, the principal and owner of the creche.
