Moduopo Primary School teachers were honoured last week Friday for their hard work in honing children’s future.
All the teachers were presented with certificates of recognition for their services.
The overall winner at the awards was Mr Tumelo Mofokeng.
The award ceremony, which is hailed as a first of its kind in township schools, had a number of categories.
The school’s head of department (HOD), Mrs Matilda Time, said she, together with the awards committee, organised the event to acknowledge the dedication of the educators.
She said the principal, Mr Masilo Serumula, came up with idea to encourage the staff to do more than they are doing now in delivering their services.
Mrs Time said once the idea of the awards was conceptualised, they had to set up the awards committee which had the task of identifying nominees.
“The actual voting was done by a task committee in seclusion to bring an element of surprise to the nominated educators.
“We decided not to do an open nomination and voting because the teacher would know who the nominees were,” said Mrs Time.
She said there were three nominees in each category.
Other educators who were rewarded include:
- Award for Punctuality – Mr Philimon Ngoepe and Mrs Nthabeleng Mashele.
- Award for Discipline – Mr Tumelo Mofokeng.
- Award for Cleanliness – Mrs Puseletso Akhosi, Mrs Maria Rankwe, Ms Mummy Mphahlele and Mrs Martha Radebe.
- Award for Dedication – Mr Tumelo Mofokeng.
- Award for Innovation – Mrs Matilda Time.
- Award for Bathopele – Mr Tumelo Mofokeng.
- Award for Sport (chess) – Mrs Kgomotso Msimango, Mr Peter Moerane and Mr Thomas Monyai.
- Award for Music – Mr Thomas Monyai, Ms Johannah Tsoku and Mrs Dihelane Litsibane.
- Award for Administrator – Ms Lina Kekana.
- Award for General Assistant – Shimane Nkhobe.
Mr Serumula said he was satisfied with the outcome of the awards.
“Everything went well and as planned. I hope the staff keeps up the spirit, stays motivated and keeps up the good work,” said Mr Serumula.
Mrs Time said the school aims to host the event annually.
