Model aircraft club gives children a Christmas treat

The kids were given a pair of shoes and school bag

CHILDREN aged between three and 13 years were treated to a braai and given Christmas gifts on Saturday at Barnstormers Model Aircraft Club just off the R25.

The 14 children were from Siyasigabiza Home and Orphanage in Tembisa.

“We felt we wanted to give back to the community and that’s why we invited them over. We bought each child a pair of shoes after getting their names and sizes from the home,” explained Fiona Graham, secretary of the club.

The kids also received a school bag donated by Hope Restoration Ministries (HRM).

Siyasigabiza project coordinator, Mpho Mokwena, said the home, founded by Gabisile Khoza, had been running since 1998.

“We have around 20 kids who have been abandoned, abused and orphaned. We offer them shelter and ensure they go to school and have everything they need in a safe environment where their hope is restored,” said Mokwena.

“We want to break the cycle and ensure the children make a positive impact in their future,” she added.

The children enjoyed the afternoon watching the radio-controlled aircraft taking off. They especially enjoyed the flying deer and the drone filled with sweets that were dropped from the sky.
