Teacher says goodbye after 40 years
Her learners were very dear to her and she has always regarded her teaching career a privilege.
ELSIE van Oordt from Laerskool Nobel Primary School in Modderfontein is retiring after 40 years of teaching.
She taught at various schools including Laerskool Hendrina, Laerskool Northmead and Laerskool Johan Greybe for a short period of time before joining Laerskool Nobel Primary School in 1980. She taught the Grade 1s for 17 years and then moved on to teach the Grade 2s. The last three years she has taught the Grade 4 and 7 classes and was acting HOD in the foundation and intermediate phases.
She worked under principals Mr H Hager, Mr J Bellingham, Mr Van Vuuren and current principal, Mrs M Bellingham. She has become like family to her colleagues and enjoyed a good cooperative relationship with her learners’ parents.
