THE sewage woes of Bonaero Park residents have followed them into the new year with another spill which lasted for days.
“The residents of Bonaero Park are still having to put up with raw sewage pumping onto our streets due to Ekurhuleni’s blunders. It has been like this since December 31 on the corner of Caro and Marignane streets,” Elayne Henderson wrote to Express on January 4.
“I invite the mayor to put his money where his mouth is and come visit what he wants for his aerotropolis.”
The leak was only fixed on January 6.

Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, said: “Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality acknowledges the challenge of the reported sewer blockages in Marignane Avenue in Bonaero Park.
“The overflows at corner of Caro and Marignane were due to a broken sewer line that was repaired on January 6. The repair works took long as a number of attempts were made before the leak was located.
“The pan has since expanded and with the recent rainfall, the line is now completely submerged in water and prone to sagging and storm water ingress. There are currently plans to establish a new sewer line to alleviate the constant blockages of the old sewer line.
“The metro apologises for the inconvenienced caused,” Gadebe said.
In November last year Express reported that due to the problematic nature of the sewage line in the area, the metro had for quite some time been unable to rectify the ongoing problem.
Gadebe then said the sewer line was submerged in the water pan and there was infiltration.
“This line is a challenge to open whenever there is a blockage due to the wetland and access to manholes. The manholes are covered in water and are therefore difficult to access,” he said.
