Mother pleads for donations for her daughter in renal failure

Naidene gets dialysis three times a week for four hours

MOTHER and Kempton Park resident, Wendy Forbes, needs the help of the community to get donations for her daughter, Naidene George (30), who has renal failure, diabetes and high blood pressure.

In July 2013, Forbes donated her kidney to Naidene but in October 2014 doctors had to remove it due to infection.

“The doctor said I gave her a beautiful and healthy kidney, we followed all the precautions after the surgery, gave her all her meds and she was in isolation for three months, but something just went wrong. She fought so hard not to lose the kidney,” said Forbes. “She thanks me every day for what I did and apologises that what she felt I went through, was all for nothing. I would do it again if I could.”

Naidene is also a wife and mother to a six-year-old girl.

Due to her illness making her weak, as well as the dialysis that she needs to go to three times a week for four hours at a time, she cannot work and struggles to make ends meet with all the financial burdens.

“The dialysis doesn’t rid her body of all the phosphate, so she gets so itchy that she uses a hairbrush to scratch herself, often causing her skin to bleed. Although Naidene has medical aid, the extra medications are not covered and costs R2 000 per month. She also suffers from constipation, so much so that she does not want to eat and that is not good for the diabetes. She also has a permanent cough, which is aggravated if she does not get enough fluids, however, she can only drink 500ml water a day because of the treatments and dialysis,” said Forbes. “My daughter is a very positive, strong, caring and loving person and through all of the daily struggles she goes through, she still keeps her family going.”

“I am asking for any small donations towards the relief of Naidene’s financial stress, but more importantly, to get a little car for her. It doesn’t need to be a new car but it needs to withstand the weekly trips,” said Forbes. “Her husband was in a car accident not to long ago and with no money to fix it, she is stranded and taxi trips costs R150 one-way to the hospital.”
