Consumers can prepare themselves for another hefty increase in electricity tariffs in July.
The National Electricity Regulator (NERSA) on Tuesday approved Eskom’s application for a tariff hike bigger than originally suggested.
As from April municipalities will have to pay 9.4% more for electricity from Eskom. However, consumers will only find out how much more they will have to pay in July, when municipalities will announce its tariff increases.
If Eskom’s full tariff demand had succeeded, municipalities would have to fork out 16.6%, which would have meant an even bigger increase for consumers.
In June last year, Nersa denied Eskom’s application for a 25 per cent tariff hike.
