Problem piping solved after years of flooding in Glen Marais

Residents of Apiesdoring Avenue have experienced flooding on their street and in their homes for years now

GLEN Marais residents are relieved as a flooding problem that lasted for years was finally resolved.

Residents of Apiesdoring Avenue had experienced flooding on their street and in their homes for years every time it rained heavily.

Most recently, two weeks ago, another storm left the street and some of the residents’ homes flooded.

“Each time department officials came out and told us they could not find the problem and that would be the end of the story,” the residents said.

One couple with a home on the street had to eventually install a blocking system at the bottom of their gate as well as build a pipe system to lead the water away from the house, as insurance refused to pay for any more damages.

On Friday, February 19, the storm water was still flooding the street, a situation that had lasted for about four days.

According to the homeowners, they were told the problem was not within their street but they would never find out where the problem lay.

“It eventually got to a point where we got in a manager from the water and sanitation department who had been extremely helpful in the past. He would even come out here himself to look at the problem.”

But after years without a solution, the manager arranged for the issue to be fixed. The problem was a blocked storm water drain, which was duly unblocked.

The residents say the manager was the one who finally arranged for machinery to drain the water and fix the piping that was causing the problem.

“It’s just such a relief to have some results after years of struggling with this issue,” say the residents.
