UPDATE: Fatal bike accident victim was a superbike racer

The former Volkskool Brakpan pupil stayed in Pretoria during the week and came home on the weekends

The young motorcyclist killed in this morning’s accident in Petit was Anthony Shelley of Dalview, Brakpan.

He was on his way to work in Pretoria when he was involved in a collision with a bakkie on Old Pretoria Road in Petit around 7am.

Brakpan Herald reported that dozens of people gathered outside his home after they have heard the news of his death.

Shelley was a superbike racer who featured in Brakpan Herald several times.

The former Volkskool Brakpan pupil stayed in Pretoria during the week and came home on the weekends.

Amelia van As, Anthony’s step-mother, told the Herald that Anthony was a good and happy child, who achieved so much in his life. The heartbroken woman took the Herald around the family home, where three of Anthony’s motorbikes are kept inside the house.

Anthony’s photographs and numerous awards are on display throughout the house.

The talented rider was known for his racing number #74. He achieved his big break at the 10th National 600 Super Sport Race at Zwartkops Raceway in Pretoria at the tender age of 17.

His funeral will take place at 2pm on Thursday at Red Star Raceway in Delmas.
