Tembisa Legends release first album

Tembisa elderly drop their first music album.

A Tembisa elderly music group has released its first album after two years of the groups formation.

Tembisa Legends consists of four members, Dingaan Magagula, Kuli Skhosana, Lindiwe Mthembu and Zodwa Nkosi some of whom are not new to the music industry.

Lindiwe is a former member of Mgqashiyo group called Mahlathini and Mahotella Queens and Izintombi Sesimanje Manje.

Dingaan worked with Boyoyo Boys of the tsotsi fame and also worked with Paul Simon on Grace Land.

Dingaan and Lindiwe started singing together while they were still teenagers at number 56 Esangweni section using an ordinary guitar and went on to feature in major music groups in the South African music industry.

Because of their love of music they decided to form a group called Tembisa Legends to preserve the 60’s genre of music.

They performed in various events in and around Tembisa.

“The response from admiring Tembisa community inspired the recording of our first album,” said Ms Mthembu.

She said the subject of their songs is to encourage good morals in the society and show the young how they used to live and entertain themselves during the times of Sophiatown while many of the Tembisa residents were still in Edindela (Edenvale), Tiki-line, Ephelandaba and Etownship (Alexandra).

“We appeal to Tembisa community to buy and support our music,” said Mr Magagula.

Tembisa Legends and Mama-E will be entertaining Kasi music lovers on Mother’s Day on May 14, at Rabasotho Hall.

The group is also looking for new elderly members and interested individuals can contact Mama Malindi on 078 755 1670 or 073 791 3999 (Charity).

We would also love to assist in training youth to preserve our cultural music.
