Anti-crime blitz nets 123 suspects

The SAPS Ekurhuleni North Cluster arrested about 123 suspects over the weekend.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, 40 suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

“Twenty three suspects were arrested by the Ivory Park SAPS and nine people were arrested by the Tembisa South SAPS. Others were detained at other police stations. Eleven suspects were arrested for shoplifting, nine for assault and two for domestic violence. Some were arrested for possession of dagga, drugs, possession of hijacked motor vehicles and malicious damage to property,” said W/O Sekgobela.

“Among the suspects arrested, we have a 25-year-old suspect who was arrested by the Norkem Park SAPS for possession of a hijacked Golf 1. The suspect was arrested at the corner of Getrude and Embren streets in Birchleigh North,” said W/O Sekgobela.

All the suspects were expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on a Monday.

The outcome of the court proceedings was unknown at the time of going to print.
