Police nail 122 suspects over the weekend

One of the suspects was caught in Birchleigh North in possession of a stolen vehicle

A 25-year-old suspect will appear in court after he was arrested on April 17 for being in possession of a hijacked car.

According to W/O Neldah Sekgobela, communications officer for Ivory Park SAPS, the suspect was apprehended by Norkem Park SAPS at the corner of Gertrude Road and Emberen Street in Birchleigh North.

He was caught with a hijacked VW Golf 1.

Over the weekend, the Ekurhuleni North Police Cluster, including Ivory Park SAPS, Tembisa South Police Station and others, managed to arrest 122 other suspects for various crimes.

“Forty suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of liquor. Eleven suspects were arrested for shoplifting, nine for assault and two for domestic violence.”

The others were arrested for cases such as possession of dagga, drugs, possession of hijacked motor vehicles and malicious damage to property.

All the suspects are expected to appear in Tembisa Magistrate’s Court to face their charges.
