The Ekurhuleni North Cluster held a joint road block operation on the R21 near Essellen Park.
The operation was held on Friday, April 15, from 9am to 2pm and was organised by the SAPS Provincial Head Office.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, they were joined by members from Johannesburg North, Johannesburg West, Tshwane West, the EMPD, Gauteng Traffic Police, the K9-dog unit, the Mounted Unit – Horses and Gautrain.
“Motorists were stopped in order to search for unlicensed firearms, drugs, stolen property, stolen motor vehicles and the roadworthiness of the vehicles. Forty six traffic fines were issued. About 1 026 vehicles were searched and 20 216 people were searched,” said W/O Sekgobela.
According to W/O Sekgobela, a 44-year-old man was arrested for possession of unpolished diamonds found in his vehicle.
