A number of schools around Tembisa have fallen prey to criminals who are stealing computers.
Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said three schools have already been broken into, since last weekend.
“Robbers confront security personnel at the schools in the middle of the night. They point firearms at the guards and then tie them up.
“Some security personnel are assaulted,” said Capt Ralidzhivha.
“They then break into the computer room and staff room. They help themselves to computers that are used by school children. They also steal other items like feeding scheme groceries.”
According to Capt Ralidzhivha, a school’s security guard was severely assaulted during one of the robberies.
“He told police officers that the criminals assaulted him with bricks. The robbers went into the staff room and computer room. They broke the door open and stole computers and a flat screen television.”
The Tembisa SAPS is appealing to members of the community to help the SAPS identify the suspects.
Any suspicious behaviour can be reported to 10111.
