Tip off leads to arrest of man suspected of stealing thousands from stokvel group

"The suspect was arrested in Soshanguve, Pretoria, after community members alerted the Ivory Park SAPS."

The Ivory Park SAPS has arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly stealing R120 000 on Wednesday last week.

It is believed the money belonged to a stokvel group in Ivory Park.

The Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, said the stokvel money was hidden behind a cupboard in the house and was covered with a blanket.

“According to the complainant, who is the suspect’s cousin, the suspect was living with them in the same yard. He disappeared the same day after stealing the cash. The suspect was arrested in Soshanguve, Pretoria, after community members alerted the Ivory Park SAPS,” said W/O Sekgobela.

W/O Sekgobela said the suspect used some of the money to buy himself a car, which was already registered under his name.

“The management of the Ivory Park SAPS thanks the community members in Soshanguve who gave the police information, which led to the arrest of the suspect. The suspect is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on a charge of theft,” said W/O Sekgobela.
