UPDATE: Robbers escape with elderly victim’s bakkie

The gardener had just opened the gate when he was accosted by five men

FIVE suspects, one armed with a gun, escaped in their victim’s bakkie after beating him on the head with a blunt object.

Capt Jethro Mtshali, Kempton Park SAPS spokesman, said the incident took place at 6.15am on Thursday, at the 64-year-old’s Highveld Street home.

Mtshali said the gardener had just opened the gate when he was accosted by five men. One armed with a gun hit him with the butt of the firearm before tying him up with ropes.

The 64-year-old man arrived and was also tied up. He was beaten with a hammer and had to be taken to hospital. The suspects escaped in his Isuzu bakkie, with an undisclosed amount of money.
