
Judge Matshitse, from the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, sentenced six men from Ivory Park following a house robbery in June 2012.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela, the men were convicted and sentenced on charges of housebreaking with the intent to rob and robbery with aggravating circumstances. Three of the six were also found guilty of rape.
Mnyalela Mfundo Jeremy, Mr Thabang Ndaba and Mr Bheki Innocent Nkosi were sentenced to 37 years each for housebreaking with the intent to rob, robbery with aggravating circumstances and rape.
George Thabiso Motswere, Dumisani Matthews Khumalo and Godfrey Mokwena were sentenced 15 years each for house breaking with the intent to rob and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
“The incident happened in the early hours of the morning on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Allandale next to Ivory Park. The complainant, his wife and two children were sleeping in their house when he heard the sound of something breaking. He went to investigate and was confronted by six men. One of them beat him on the head with a spanner.
“They took him and his children to the bedroom where his hands were tied with shoe laces. They then took his wife to another bedroom where three of the six took turns raping her. Before the suspects left, they took some of the households items, including money,” said W/O Sekgobela.
The Ivory Park SAPS station commander, Brigadier Frank Mthombheni, congratulated the investigating officer, Detective Poopedi, on the results of his hard work.
