Pupils’ artwork secures prizes for schools
"This was unbelievable, our pupils appreciate their winnings very much."
The Art-at-Heart competition rewarded eight schools in Tembisa with building materials via vouchers worth R15 000 each.
On April 28, Cashbuild Tembisa Plaza held a store opening ceremony where the schools’ pupils were invited to submit their best artwork for Cashbuild’s outlet refurbishment. pupils were required to create an artifact that best describes the organisation within their community.
“This artwork was displayed at the ceremony and will then remain on display in the Cashbuild store for the next six years,” said communications officer, Ms Babalwa Jonga.
“The Art-at-Heart competition is a Southern African Cashbuild initiative, whereby donations are made to some of the region’s most needy schools,” said Ms Jonga.
St Gemmas Primary and Moduopo Primary schools were two of the eight chosen schools that each received a Cashbuild building materials voucher worth R15 000.
“This was unbelievable, our pupils appreciate their winnings very much. We would like to replace all the gutters around the school. Most of these gutters are leaking and some are damaged. The school gutters help our pupils to collect water for watering their garden, as well as saving some for drinking,” said St Gemmas Primary School’s teacher, Mr Buti Ngwenya.
Moduopo Primary School principal, Mr Masilo Serumula, said they would like to build a new kitchen because they currently cook from a stainless steel container which is very small and quite dangerous.
He said if there is any money left, they will use it for general maintenance around the school.
