Security officer admits to assist with theft at construction site

All eight arrested suspects were detained at Ivory Park Police Station

EQUIPMENT and tools worth thousands of rands were found in Winnie Mandela in Tembisa on Friday evening.

According to Lt Col Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesman, the EMPD Winnie Mandela Precinct Commander was alerted about a suspicious-looking situation where a truck and an LDV were parked and goods were being moved from one vehicle to another. It was around 6.30pm.

“On arrival, the metro police officers searched both vehicles and uncovered equipment and tools worth a fortune.

“Seven men found at that scene were arrested. One of them, a security officer, admitted to have colluded with the criminals to pilfer the property from where he worked at a construction site in Kagiso. He also mentioned that some of the goods had already been sold to some persons in Tsakane,” Kgasago said.

The Winnie Mandela officers sought back up from the EMPD Community Liaison Unit to go for the equipment allegedly sold in Tsakane. Some of the tools were recovered in Tsakane and one male suspect arrested.

Among the property recovered were brand new air-conditioners, a huge dicing machine, compressors, generators, kamgol hammers and drilling machines.

All eight arrested suspects were detained at Ivory Park Police Station and charged with possession of suspected stolen property.

Both the truck and the recovered property were booked in at the same police station.
