He said the SAPS members returned fire but the suspect was able to wound one of the officers in the leg and stomach.

A police officer was shot and wounded while attending to a robbery scene in Kanana Section on April 24.

Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said two officers attended the scene and established that a business robbery had been committed by three men.

“One of the suspects was armed with a firearm. SAPS members then spotted the three suspects but before officers could search them, one of the suspects started shooting at the officers,” said Capt Ralidzhivha.

He said the SAPS members returned fire but the suspect was able to wound one of the officers in the leg and stomach. The suspect then robbed the injured police officer of his service firearm.

“The suspects fled. The state vehicle was also damaged during the shooting. The officer was taken to Carsten Hof Clinic and is in a stable condition,” said Capt Ralidzhivha.
