Victim arrested for perjury

"She told the SAPS she was held at gunpoint by two men at about 5am next to a gate in Hospital View."

A 28-year-old woman was arrested for perjury on May 12.

Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said the woman went to the Tembisa Police Station on Thursday morning to report a hijacking.

“She told the SAPS she was held at gunpoint by two men at about 5am next to a gate in Hospital View, where she resides,” said Capt Ralidzhivha.

“Before the case was registered, the vehicle was found by members of a tracker team. It was parked at her boyfriend’s friend’s house. The man told the tracker team the vehicle was brought to the property by the woman’s boyfriend.”

Capt Ralidzhivha said when the woman was asked about her boyfriend she told the police she had lied about the hijacking.

“The vehicle was actually taken by her boyfriend, who insisted that he was going to use it during the day.”

Capt Ralidzhivha said the woman was arrested and a case of perjury was opened against her.

“She was detained in the police cells. She is expected to appear before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Capt Ralidzhivha.
