REFUSE removal problems have been plaguing residents the past two weeks.
“The main reason for this is that, for the past two weeks, the depot has been facing challenges with regards to the non-availability of refuse removal vehicles, that has led to unprecedented proportions of delayed collection of refuse around Kempton Park,” Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, said.
“The city’s cleanliness remains a major priority, hence we have introduced the Clean City Programme. We are working around the clock to change the status quo and hope we will be back on track to address the backlog as a matter of urgency.
“Our strategy includes ensuring that the areas that could not be serviced during scheduled weekdays are serviced over weekends. This will continue until we are fully resourced to deal with problem,” he said.
Areas affected since the beginning of last week include Bonaero Park, Bredell, Aston Manor, Allen Grove, Birchleigh, Birch Acres and Glen Marais.
The removal of containers in some areas is also affected.
