WITHDRAWING large amounts of money from ATMs can make you a target to criminals, police have warned.
This stern warning comes from Kempton Park Station Commander, Brig Bertha Kgoroba, who advised community members to avoid withdrawing large sums of cash at bank at all costs, as police have noted a pattern where people end up being robbed by observing criminals.
According to police spokesman, Capt Jethro Mtshali, this warming comes after a 45-year-old woman was robbed of R8 000 cash shortly after withdrawing it on May 26.
The incident occurred at about 11am.

“Shortly after withdrawing the cash, the victim alleges that an unknown male dropped a plastic bag on the ground, which the victim ignored. She continued on her way. Soon afterwards a woman appeared and asked the victim if she saw the plastic bag that was dropped, and again she ignored her,” Mtshali explained.
The victim was then forced by the man and woman into an unknown motor vehicle, held at gunpoint and instructed to give them all her valuables, including the money. She had to place it in a plastic bag. The victim did as she was told.
“The robbers also told the victim they were police officers,” Mtshali said.
The robbers then let her out of the car and drove away.
Police are investigating a case of armed robbery and the suspects are still at large.
