
A suspect was arrested in Tembisa on June 8 at around 7:30pm for common robbery cases which took place in the Norkem Park policing area.
According to Norkem Park SAPS spokesman Capt Lesibana Molokomme, the suspect was arrested by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police in the Isivana Section, Tembisa.
“On the day he was arrested, three scholars were robbed of their cellphones in two different instances by an unknown suspect driving a red Opel Corsa registration TMG 414GP. The incidents took place within a short space of time between 11:30am and 12pm,” he explained.
The suspect is alleged to have approached two scholars on the day, along Julia Street, Birchleigh North.
He is said to have been driving alone in the said car, when he threatened the two to bring their cellphones or else he was going to shoot them.
“The victims handed their two cellphones over to the suspect as instructed. The second incident happened on Oscar Street, Birchleigh North. The victim an 18-year-old student was instructed to do the same as the first victims and he complied. In both incidents the victims were threatened, but never saw any firearm on the suspect,” Molokomme further explained.
A look-out for the car was given over police and metro radios and the car was later spotted at a house in Tembisa, Isivana section, said Molokomme.
The suspect was arrested and led the officer to where he had left the cellphone.
One cellphone, a Samsung, was recovered.
The suspect, aged 22, was arrested and will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court facing two counts of common robbery and one possession of a stolen cellphone.
Investigations continue to establish the whereabouts of the two missing cellphones.
