A man and his two wives were arrested for birth certificate fraud.
Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said on June 23 the trio went to South Africa Social Security Agency (SASSA) to register seven children.
“The 59-year-old husband entered the SASSA office and he was in possession of seven certificates for his children.
“An officer at Tembisa SASSA office was surprised when he entered an identity number of the child and it showed that the child is receiving a grant in Lusikisiki,” said Captain Ralidzhivha.
“He punched in the second child’s ID numbers and it showed the child is getting grant at Malelani.”
Captain Ralidzhivha said the SASSA officer continued and two of the certificates stated the children were getting grants at Lusikisiki and the other two in Malelani.
According to the system there is no information on the other three children.
“The SASSA employee asked the man whether he knew that some of his children were already receiving grants. He denied it and the 27-year-old and 31-year-old wives were called in. It was discovered that they don’t have identity documents. The person who has an identity document is the husband. He was the only one who can register the children’s grants,” he said.
“The two women later confessed that they bought the certificate from a certain woman at Tswelopele.”
“They will soon appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court.”
