Taxi cash collector shot and killed
This killing came a week after the association laid to rest its local chairman, Mr Vusi Dlhamini, who was also fatally shot.
The Ivory Park Taxi Association (IPTA) is mourning the death of one of its staff cash collectors who was shot and killed on Tuesday morning.
It is believed the staff member, known as Isaac, was shot while on duty at Stop Corner in Ivory Park, a few meters away from the Ivory Park SAPS.
The fatal shooting occurred at around 6am on Tuesday.
This killing came a week after the association laid to rest its local chairman, Mr Vusi Dlhamini, who was also fatally shot while going to the Ivory Park Taxi Rank in Extension 15.
It is believed that Mr Dlhamini was shot while driving in his car.
Isaac was also shot while in his motor vehicle.
The SAPS Provincial spokesperson, Captain Kay Makhubele, said the police received a tip-off about the person who was shot inside a motor vehicle at the corner of Freedom Drive and Mnotho Street in Ivory Park.
“The victim was found lying on the front seat with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body. His belongings were found in his possession, including a cellular phone and cash,” said Capt Makhubele.
Capt Makhubele said the deceased was working as a taxi cash collector for the Ivory Park Taxi Rank.
“The suspects fled the scene in a white Toyota Tazz. It is not known how many suspects there were. No arrests have been made. A case of murder was opened at the Ivory Park SAPS,” said Capt Makhubela.
The IPTA chairman, Mr Johannes Mkhonza, confirmed that Isaac was on duty collecting money when the incident happened.
“It is very bad that such crime is happening in the area. It pains us to watch our workers being killed,” said Mr Mkhonza.
