Young woman tackles image of public schools

MiBeautiful School is about creating a positive and credible image online and offline, the organisation was recently launched

MANDISA Jiyane is a 22-year-old from Kempton Park who is passionate about changing the image of public schools.

It is this zeal that led to the launch of miBeautiful School, a digital marketing company founded by Jiyane. The company was launched on Friday evening, August 5, at Norkem Park High School.

There were performances by students from Rhodesfield Technical High School and Norkem Park High School, while students from Curro Serengeti took pictures at the event. Artwork was also on display.

“The service we offer is that we partner up with high schools and create a positive and credible image online and offline by implementing digital marketing strategies that will not only grow the school as a brand, but also assist in providing schools with necessary resources they need to empower their learners,” said Jiyane.

“Irrespective of what people say about the schools, my mission is to try and make them look beautiful because they do have potential,” she pointed out.

Jiyane said she aimed to make the image of public schools equal to that of private schools. “I know it sounds crazy, but why not?” she asked.

Projects Jiyane has undertaken to include miArt, which encourages young people between the ages of 12 and 20 years old to nurture their artistic abilities and talents.

“We want schools to have art galleries where they showcase artwork by young people. We’re also running a campaign called miALS. This is aimed at creating awareness around the ALS disease,” she added.

Another project, Jiyane said they were starting, was miSports, where they would raise funds on behalf of high schools to upgrade their sporting facilities and also assist students to obtain scholarships.

Jiyane matriculated at Windsor High Academy and studied marketing at Stellenbosch Boland College. After obtaining her qualification, she came home and began volunteering at Norkem Park High School and this was when miBeautiful School was born.

“I am in charge of all their online platforms and social media accounts, their website, Facebook and Twitter accounts. I also take pictures of school activities.

Jiyane also has a few advertising ideas she’d like to introduce to the schools that are using her services.

“Kids get into trends quickly and the money raised can be used for infrastructure and other needs,” she said.
