Drug trafficker gets six years behind bars

He also tried to bribe the authorities

A Tanzanian national, Karim Mussa Kondo (27), was sentenced to six years imprisonment when he appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates Court for drug dealing and bribery.

Kondo was arrested earlier this year, after landing at OR Tambo International Airport from Dar es Salaam.

A routine search of his luggage by the Hawks and customs revealed he had concealed about 40kg of ephedrine with an estimated value of over R2.6-million.

Upon this discovery, Kondo unsuccessfully tried to bribe the authorities with R5 000, resulting in an added charge of bribery.

The National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Lieut-Gen Mthandazo Ntlemeza, welcomed the conviction, warning would-be traffickers: “Our eyes and ears are everywhere. Just when you think you are home and dry, you will be next.”
