Two more schools are clean from drugs

The drugs and truck hijacking awareness campaign was done in conjunction with Women’s Month

AN all-female police cast from Kempton’s police station led Operation Basadi on Friday as part of the ongoing Women’s Month.

Led by Kempton SAPS’ station commander Brig Bertha Kgoroba, the operation was held to raise awareness on drug abuse by schoolchildren as well as the problem of truck hijackings, which have become a regular occurrence in Kempton Park.

No drugs found at local high school

Police spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, said the operation began with drug searches being conducted at Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld and Rhodesfied high schools. No drugs were found at either school.

Police officers also spoke to the learners about the dangers of drugs and how to avoid getting involved in the dark world of drug addiction.

“The officers then moved on to the streets where they held a truck hijacking awareness roadblock at the Monument Road and R23 intersection,” Mtshali said.

During the roadblock, pamphlets were handed out to truck drivers informing them about the truck hijackings and what they can do to avoid falling victim to them.
