Booze hijacker ‘hides’ stolen truck in shopping centre parking lot

A jammer used to make the truck untraceable failed to help the criminals

ONE suspect was arrested when the metro police recovered a hijacked truck, carrying liquor valued at R500 000, in a shopping centre’s parking area, on Monday.

Lieut Col Wilfred Kgsago, metro police spokesman, said a vehicle using a portable police blue light, with occupants masquerading as police officers, hijacked the truck at around 7am, along the N12 freeway near Etwatwa.

EMPD Kempton Precinct officers, with the assistance of EMPD loss control members, recovered the vehicle at 9am on the same day.

“One suspect was found in the truck in the parking grounds of the Shoprite Shopping Centre, just off Voortrekker Road. A jammer used to make the truck untraceable failed to help the criminals,” Kgasago said.

The 32-year-old arrested suspect was charged with possession of a hijacked vehicle and stolen goods, when he was taken to the Kempton Park Police Station.
