PATRICIA Khumalo has been re-elected as this term’s speaker of council.
Khumalo returned to her seat after getting 117 votes. The DA’s Shadow Shabangu, who was nominated alongside Khumalo, also received 106 votes.
It was also announced that one of the votes was spoilt.
Khumalo thanked everyone who voted for entrusting her yet again to lead the council house.
“I promise to lead the house with honesty, integrity and impartiality.”
The elated speaker also welcomed all the new parties to Ekurhuleni Metro’s council chambers.
Khumalo will now chair the rest of the meeting when the new mayor will be elected.
