
The South African Police Service has arrested a Bangladeshi national and an immigration officer for allegedly colluding to secure the foreign national’s fraudulent entry into South Africa.
Andrew Aphane, the 39-year-old immigration officer stationed at OR Tambo International Airport’s immigration office allegedly authorised 38-year-old Abdul Hussain’s entry into the country fraudulently by stamping his false passport on Tuesday, August 23, Brig Selvy Mohlala of the police said.
The pair was arrested by the detective task team based at the airport and appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on August 24. Aphane was charged with aiding and abetting Abdul to enter the country illegally and Abdul was charged for contravention of the Immigration Act.
Aphane was granted R2 000 bail, while Abdul was remanded in custody until their next court appearance on September 2.
