“I have not come to praise Caesar. I have come to bury him, and I assure you, we will!”
The words of the DA leader in Ekurhuleni, Clr Ghaleb Cachalia, at the metro’s council meeting in Germiston on Wednesday where the new mayoral committee has been announced.
“Let me say to the three men across the way, we left you a piece of Gauteng, try to govern it wisely for now, because it won’t be for long, the hour cometh! Blue and red and the other colours of the rainbow are on the march. Mark my words, our journey is unstoppable!” Cachalia said.

He continued: “The voters of Ekurhuleni have spoken and I intend to honour their decision, even if some elected representatives chose to help form this ANC government. Do not forget that the ANC received less than 50% of the votes from the electorate. The real mandate was one that said “we have had enough.”
The ANC only managed to scrape together a majority of 2.4% in the mayoral election.
“Remember that I offered every opposition party a seat and a role in government proportionate to their vote. Therein lies the difference between democracy and debauchery! Accordingly, I want to thank those councillors who stood together with honour, in opposition, to this continuation and acceleration of patronage.
“Make no mistake, everyone else voted for more corruption in this municipality.
“Still, you can be sure, we will watch you at all times. We will hold you to book and put you in jail, if need be. Just so you know, we’re fully aware that you have appointing HODs unlawfully to accommodate ANC councillors who did not make the list. Best you stop it now.”
