LOW water pressure problems in certain areas of Kempton Park and Benoni, including Brentwood Park, can only be dealt with properly if new reservoirs are built.
Many residents, especially those in Brentwood Park, have been complaining of low pressure or no water at all for days on end. One such resident’s water pressure ranges from 0.8 to 1 bar.

Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, confirmed other areas such as Glen Marais, Allen Grove and Pomona also experience intermittent low peak-hour pressure. These areas are supplied from the Isando reservoir.
A number of future developments are earmarked for this zone to curb the problem. “The most important project is the construction of the Kempton Park reservoir and relevant pipelines to limit the flow from the Isando reservoir,” Gadebe said.
As far as the Glen Marais area is concerned, current and future plans in terms of master planning, is the construction of a new 20Ml reservoir and a 4Ml water tower. The water tower has been planned as the third phase of the Bredell reservoir project and the conceptual plan has been completed, Gadebe said.
“The water supply for the Kempton Park water tower will come from the Bredell reservoir. The next phase is the construction of the Bredell reservoir and a booster pump station in the interim, until the Kempton Park water tower is constructed.
“Designs for the Kempton Park reservoir are complete and the project will go on tender in a couple of months. The design for the water tower is still outstanding.”
In the interim, however, a pressure reducing valve (PRV) that was damaged and which affected the water supply, has been repaired.
Brentwood Park Agricultural Holdings is currently supplied from the existing Northmead Tower, the second Northmead Tower and pump station and it is very critical to deal with this issue, Gadebe added.
“Design of a new 5Ml tower is complete and construction will commence in about two months. Once complete, it will augment the existing 1,6Ml-a-day tower.”
Gadebe emphasised: “At least 14 reservoirs are required in the immediate term to ensure that reservoir capacity problems are resolved in areas of Benoni and Kempton Park.”
