Ivory Park commander addresses crime in Sector 4

This crime fighting awareness meeting was also used to distribute whistles, which the community was urged to use in helping to fighting crime.

The station commander of Ivory Park SAPS, Brig Mbongeni David Ngcobo, met with some members of the community at the local school, over the weekend of September 10, and encouraged them to work closely with the police in order to fight crime.

This crime fighting awareness meeting was also used to distribute whistles, which the community was urged to use in helping to fight crime.

“Meetings such as this, and there are still more to come, are informed by the realisation that the police cannot fight crime on their own, and that community members, through community policing forums and other important structures, can play an important role in the fight against crime,” said Brig Ngcobo.

Ebony Park, Allandale, Kaalfontein and some portions of Glen Austin, which form the Sector 4 policing precinct of Ivory Park, have been particularly hard hit by violent crime.

It was from this concern that Brig Ngcobo, who was accompanied to the meeting by visible policing and detective commanders, called on the community to be aware of their surroundings and know who their neighbours and tenants are.

He called on members of stokvels and anyone wanting to withdraw large amounts of money to speak to their banks, as they have ways and means of moving money without carrying all of it in their pockets or bags.

Brig Ngcobo said this will minimise incidents of bank-follow robberies, which tend to escalate as December approaches.

“We urge the community to organise themselves through structures, and join these structures, to enable them to work closely and effectively with the police in the fight against crime,” he added.

He also used the opportunity to introduce the newly appointed manager for Sector 4, Capt Mpungose, who can be contacted on 073 217 1183.

His deputy, Const Buthelezi, can be contacted on 079 694 6850. Residents of this sector interested in knowing more about sector policing are strongly urged to call these two officers.
