High tea and flea market to raise funds

The event will start at 9am and end at 1pm, a pad drive initiative is also being run simultaneously. To support the cause you may drop off donations of pads/sanitary towels at the EXPRESS offices.

THE Mentor Empower and Love Others (MELO) Foundation will host a Ladies’ Tea and Flea Market this Saturday, October 1, at Dolphins Corner, 230 Eighth Avenue, corner Orchard Street, Pomona.

The event is being held in partnership with Caxton, Dolphin’s Corner and Kya ithata.org, and will run from at 9am till 1pm.

Entry into the event is R100 and a pack of pads.

“We are hosting this event to raise funds for a Christmas party that will be held at Tembisa Child Welfare on December 3, we want to put smiles on the kids’ faces and give them a day of entertainment and joy,” said EXPRESS journo and founder of the Melo Foundation, Tumelo Mthethwa.

“Simultaneously, we are running a pad drive to collect as many sanitary towels as we can for young girls who do not have access to these products and appreciate any support for this cause.”

Mthethwa urged those who were unable to attend the Ladies Tea and Flea Market to drop off their donations of pads/sanitary towels at the EXPRESS offices, 30 Voortrekker Road, Kempton Park.

“To promote female entrepreneurship we will also have women business owners selling their various products on the day,” she said.

The theme for the day is: “How can you love me if I don’t love me?”

“A lot of women are dealing with issues of self-love and self-acceptance and our speakers for the day will be talking about their own lives and how they have overcome struggles of identity, forgiveness of self and self-love.”

Guest speakers will include co-founder of Word Praise Christian Centre International Pastor Nomkhosi Mahlangu, inter-disciplinary education researcher Dr Neo Maseko, author and media personality Itumeleng Sekhu, business woman and artist road manager Refiloe Pooe, as well as African youth empowerment leader Jabulile Buthelezi.

Entertainment will include the Melo Foundation dance group, a cappella group The Five, as well as founder of Kya Ithata.org and singer Lerato Machaba.

“I am so grateful to all the organisations and individuals who have played a role in ensuring the success of this event and look forward to meeting all the amazing women who will be in attendance,” said Mthethwa.

“Come and be inspired, challenged and motivated, while enjoying morning tea with phenomenal women.”
