Be aware of crime while driving

Tembisa SAPS hosts awareness campaign in Tembisa.

Members of the Tembisa South SAPS Social Crime Prevention, Youth Crime Prevention Desk and SAPS communications held a crime awareness campaign on September 28.

The campaign was held along Andrew Mapheto Road, next to the Tembisa plaza.

Captain Neldah Sekgobela said the campaign was held in order to remind motorists to be vigilant with regards to the crime taking place alongside the road and next to the Esangweni Taxi Rank.

“The SAPS is concerned about the cases which are reported at the police station, whereby goods and especially groceries, are stolen from inside the vehicles while they are stationery at traffic lights or stuck in slow moving traffic,” said Capt Sekgobela.

Capt Sekgobela said pamphlets with safety tips, police emergency numbers and hotspots were distributed to the motorists and members of the community.

Some of the tips include:

  • Lock all the vehicle’s doors and use strong padlocks wherever needed.
  • Be on the lookout for suspicious looking characters and report them to the police.
  • Be wary of people standing at traffic lights or intersections, they may be innocent but perpetrators mix with these people.
