The ceremony took place at Winnie Mandela Park on Friday last week.

In celebration of National Arbour Day, Ekurhuleni’s Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) Clr Ndosi Shongwe led members of the community during a tree planting ceremony.

The ceremony took place at Winnie Mandela Park on Friday last week.

As a practical and symbolic gesture of a sustainable environmental, the City of Ekurhuleni spent national Arbour Day with the community of Winnie Mandela Section, planting indigenous trees to beautify the Winnie Mandela Community Park under the theme “Forest and Water”.

The MMC named the River Bush Willow tree ‘Mpumelelo’ as she was watering it, which means success.

Activities of the day included tree planting at the park, tree planting at schools, cleaning up of streams and the painting of swings.
