Couple stabbed for their groceries in Bredell

Paramedics confirmed that the man was treated for four stab wounds to his head, shoulder and hand

A BREDELL couple was attacked by four men who wanted to steal their groceries, on October 1.

The men approached the couple while they were walking along Third Avenue.

According to Community Monitoring Service (CMS), the couple was on their way home from shopping when the incident occurred.

“When the man tried to stop them, he was stabbed with a knife several times,” CMS said.

The robbers fled the scene with the groceries.

EMER-G-MED’s Max Cohen confirmed that the man was treated for four stab wounds overall: “He sustained one stab wound to his head, one on his hand and two on his shoulder. Once stabilised, the man was transported to Tembisa Hospital by provincial ambulance services,”.

According to Cohen, the man’s wife was also stabbed, sustaining injuries only to her hands.

“She was treated on the scene, but didn’t want to go to hospital.”

Although police were also at the scene, Kempton SAPS spokesperson Capt Jethro Mtshali confirmed that a case was not opened with them.
