Eight Kempton cops tied up in police station? Never!
Kempton woke up to rumours that two unarmed men tied up a group of on-duty policemen
A tale of eight Kempton cops who were robbed while in “La-la Land” while on duty, is doing the rounds on social media.
Kempton Park woke up on Tuesday morning with an article, published by African News Updates, that two men tied up a group of on-duty policemen at Kempton Park Police Station on Sunday night.
According to the article, which was published on Monday on this satirical website, two unarmed men broke into the police station (which is strange already because the entrance is always open) and tied up eight policemen using cable ties. The cops were apparently sleeping while on duty. They even posted a photograph of the “victims”.
The site goes on to describe how the two perpetrators did not steal anything but instead made photocopies of the officers’ CVs and IDs, certified these ID copies, took a couple of pictures of the policemen and then fled.
The poor cops were discovered in the morning, still in their captive state.
But as it turns out, it was all a joke. However, the article had already spread to some Kempton residents, who alerted the paper about the bizarre story.
Concerned that the news might be true, EXPRESS immediately contacted Kempton Park Police Station spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, who laughed off the rumours and confirmed the incident did not take place.
“The station was operating normally and none of our officers were robbed while asleep on duty,” Mtshali said, dismissing the joke.
African News Updates describes itself as Africa’s leading satirical news website, giving you all the hot news from around the continent.
