Erwat appoints new MD

Gopane holds a BSc Hon degree in electrical engineering and has presented numerous papers both locally and internationally

THE East Rand Water Care Company’s (Erwat) new managing director is Tumelo Gopane.

“I’m honoured to have been appointed as managing director. It’s a privilege to be part of an organisation that delivers high quality services and innovative solutions to its clients – and which continuously pursues excellence in the water sector,” said Gopane.

Erwat provides bulk waste water conveyance and treatment to some 2 000 industries and more than 3.5 million people, mainly in the Ekurhuleni area. With 19 waste water treatment works processing a combined capacity of some 700 million litres of waste water a day, Erwat has positioned itself to provide sustainable and affordable quality water services.

Before joining Erwat, Gopane was the deputy municipal manager of infrastructure and technical services at the uMhlathuze Local Municipality (Richard’s Bay). He also has years of experience in the private sector.

With this experience in the water and sanitation fields, Gopane brings with him a wealth of proven and seasoned professional and personal skills which will blend well with Erwat’s values, goals and long-term strategies.

He holds a BSc Hon degree in electrical engineering and has presented numerous papers both locally and internationally.

Gopane is excited about his role at Erwat and believes the company can be taken to even greater heights.

“I have a passion for research and development, plus for innovative methods to optimise operations. Despite the huge water and sanitation challenges South Africa is facing, I’m convinced we have the skills and expertise to serve our communities and industries – to play a leading role in the water sector, as well as the preservation of our precious environment.”
