Cocaine-swallowing drug mule arrested at airport

Police say she was coming from Brazil and on her way to the DRC

A 36-year-old woman was remanded in custody, after appearing in court for drug dealing on Monday October 10.

According to Brig Selvy Mohlala, Filomena Maria Omba was arrested on Saturday October 8 at OR Tambo Airport, by members of the SAPS’s Transnational Investigation Team for allegedly dealing in drugs.

That happened after the airport based team discovered that Omba had allegedly swallowed 575 grams of cocaine, worth an estimated street value of R172 500.

“Omba was in transit to Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, after arriving from Sao Paulo in Brazil. She was travelling on an Angolan-issued passport,” Mohlala confirmed.

Omba remains in police custody while the case was postponed for further investigation until November 29.
