Evening talk on invasive plants at Modderfontein Conservation Society
Every land owner in the country now has to remove invasive species on land that they own

WARREN Schmidt of Invasive Species Specialists will be the guest speaker at the Modderfontein Conservation Society’s evening meeting, on October 20.
He will talk about government legislation making the eradication of invasive plants, the legal responsibility of property owners.
The meeting takes place at the Modderfontein Town Hall at 1 Casino road (opposite the Bowls Club) at 7.30 and visitors are welcome. Entrance is R30.
The Environmental Affairs Department said recently that South African municipalities would have until October 1 to outline their plan for controlling invasive species on all public land in the city.
“Like municipalities, every land owner in the country also has to remove invasive species on land that they own. The invasive species legislation will impact on estate agents and conveyancers,” said the Department.
The new law also says that every seller of a property has to inform the buyer of the property, of any invasive species on the property. The government wants estate agents in future to advertise ‘clean’ properties.
