Kaalfontein woman found with throat slit

According to Ivory Park SAPS, initial signs show that the woman may have been a victim of domestic violence, allegedly by her husband who has not been seen since Wednesday last week when she was heard screaming.

On Friday a 38-year-old woman from Kaalfontein, Extension 4 was found dead in a shack she shared with her husband.

According to Ivory Park SAPS, initial signs show that the woman may have been a victim of domestic violence, allegedly by her husband, who has not been seen since Wednesday last week when she was heard screaming.

“Police from Ivory Park were called to the scene in the morning of Friday last week after the younger brother broke open the door to the shack as other people were worried as they had not seen the couple since Wednesday, the day the woman was heard screaming.

“Upon opening the door the body was discovered,” said Capt Matimulane.

Capt Matimulane said the victim is a Lesotho national and the police are on the hunt for the suspect.

The acting station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Colonel Baba Matthew Mpotoane, has expressed shock at this gruesome murder, and furthermore is horrified by reports that the woman’s reported screams are alleged to have been ignored.

“Domestic violence in general is a problem for our community, and it is incumbent upon anyone who witnesses such acts to inform the police as quickly as possible in order to avert incidents such as the one we are reporting about,” said Colonel Mpotoane.

“And for those in relationships it is always important to watch for signs of potential abusers.

“Some of those can range from jealousy to controlling behaviour. And for those who are not abused but are still interested in knowing more about gender-based violence, a visit to your nearest police station’s victim-friendly room will empower you with information on these matters,” said Colonel Mpotoane.
